Dance workshops in Chennai, music gurukulam in Kerala

e Sahrdaya Foundation is an organization for the classical and contemporary performing arts.

Based in Chennai, it was launched in August 28, 2011 by Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer Sheejith Krishna, with a core group of artistes and scholars: Jyothishmathi, Manjari Chandrasekhar, Anjana Anand and Akhila Ramnarayan. More information is at the website: www.sahrdaya.in.

As part of its efforts in education, it is conducting a three-day intensive summer workshop on May 25, 26, and 27, 2012, for 20-25 emerging performers and advanced students of Bharatanatyam at the National Agro Foundation Centre for Rural Development in Illedu village, Kanchipuram District, near Pondicherry.

It will be led by the five core Sahrdaya members and eminent guest artistes: Carnatic vocalist O S Arun, art historian Chitra Madhavan, koothu artiste Ashwini Kasi and playwright-director Gowri Ramnarayan.

DANCE WORKSHOPS IN CHENNAI

ABHAI, the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India based in Chennai is hosting a series of workshops in May 2012

It is titled 'LEARN FROM LEGENDS' and it promises lessons from some very wellknown gurus. It is open even to dance students from outside Chennai.

Lakshmi Vishwanathan will focus on 'The subtleties of Abhinaya'. Her classes are from 1st to 3rd May, 2012

Open to members - age 16 and above only

Prof. C. V. Chandrasekar will handle classes on 'The nuances of Varnam'. His classes run from 4th to14th May, 2012'

Open to members -age 14 and above only with minimum of 7 years learning experience

Venue: Kalakshetra campus, Chennai.

Time: 10.30 A.M to 12.30 P.M

There is also a dance workshop to be held by the dancer-couple in this city, Vasantha Lakshmi and Narasimhachari. They will focus on Keerthanam and this will run from 7th to 14th May.

Venue: NARADA GANA SABHA. Time: 09.00 A.M to 11.00 A.M

Open to members - age 10 to 15 years with minimum 5 years learning experience

Note : Last date for registration 25th April, 2012 Outstation dance students may send donation by DD/Multi-city Cheque.

CARNATIC MUSIC CAMP IN KERALA

Agni Cultural Academy, Annamanada presents a unique music learning experience for Carnatic music students in a gurukulam style.

The camp is best for music teachers and professionals.

The guru at the six-day camp is musicologist Prof. Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma for vocal and violin.

Annamanada is a beautiful cultural village in Thrissur District, Kerala.

The camp is scheduled to commence on 28th April 2012 and will conclude on 3rd May 2012.

DANCE SEMINAR IN CHENNAI

ABHAI (Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India) is organising a seminar on "Socio-Economic Issues of Dancers, Then and Now", on Saturday 28th April 2012 at the Mini Hall of the Narada Gana Sabha. It is a celebration of World Dance Day.

The seminar will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. by Leela Samson, Chairperson, Sangeet Natak Akademi and Director of the Kalakshetra Foundation. The proceedings will be moderated by Dr. Pappu Venugopala Rao, Secretary, The Music Academy. Eminent speakers, critics, dancers and organisers will be participating in this day-long pathbreaking seminar.
