Workshop on Natyashastra
Kalakshetra Foundation presents a workshop on Natyashastra that will be conducted by scholar Bharat Gupt. Bharat Gupt, an Associate Professor in English at the College of Vocational Studies of the University of Delhi, is an Indian classicist, theatre theorist, sitar and surbahar player, musicologist, cultural analyst, and newspaper columnist. Date: February 6th to 10th Time: 9.00 AM - 12.00 noon -1.30 PM - 3.30 PM Venue: Tagore Hall, Kalakshetra Foundation. Fee: Rs 2500/- for the entire workshop Imporatant Karikas (shlokas) in all the 36 chapters of Natyashastra will be discussed with reference to the deeper meaning, mythological aspect, classical and modern theories and current day practises. Workshop: Rare krtis, javalis of Brinda
Acharyanet and Gaanapriya (gaanapriya.in) are organizing a 3 hour workshop with Chitravina N Ravikiran (http://www.ravikiranmusic.com), to commemorate the centenary of the Carnatic music legends, T Brinda and Madurai Mani Iyer. The event will be recorded live and made available for download for online students. See Acharyanet for details on how to register in advance to obtain the video recording. Ravikiran will present the workshop in two parts: 1. Kalpana Swarams 2. Rare krtis and javalis from the Brinda school. The workshop is open to: 1. Students of middle and advanced levels (who have a minimum repertoire of 25 krtis) and musicians 2. Age group 7 to 65 3. Vocalists / instrumentalists Topics will include: Art of rendering kalpana swarams in various talas, speeds and patterns, what is sarva laghu, mathematical finishes (korvais), rare compositions including some exquisite javalis. Call for applications: The Gati Summer Dance Residency
The Gati Dance Forum is a Delhi-based organisation, which was formed in 2007, to support, facilitate and promote emerging artists working in the field of dance. In 2009, they organised a residency programme for emerging choreographers giving them an opportunity to interact with senior mentors in the field. They have organised a residency every year since. India Foundation of the Arts (IFA) in Bangalore has offered its partial support towards this residency for the third consecutive year. If you are a dancer who has always wanted to create your own work; if you think you would benefit from exchanging ideas and receiving feedback from peers and experienced artists in the field; if you seek to discover a personal dance language; if you are trained in a form and want to experiment with it or extend its boundaries; if you want to explore the space between dance and other disciplines, then the Gati Summer Dance Residency may be for you! Dance workshop by Alarmel Valli
