Swarasadhana is a two day Carnatic Music Workshop where you will learn compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, whose bicentennial falls in April this year. The Maharaja is one of the few people to have composed in both the Carnatic and Hindustani styles.His songs have been composed in as many as seven languages, viz Sanskrit, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Brajbhasha and Manipravalam. There is also an astonishing variety in the types of compositions-Varnam, Swarajati, Thillana, Keertanam, Padam and Javali in Carnatic style and Dhrupad, Khayal, Thappa and Bhajan in Hindustani style. The workshop will be conducted by renowned vocalist and vainika Prince Rama Varma, scion of the royal family of Travancore, who is a direct descendant of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. Besides being a concert artiste and an organizer of music festivals, Rama Varma is also a dedicated teacher. His workshops at Perla and Hyderabad were broadcast on SVBC Channel for well over 200 episodes, perhaps the longest running program of music classes on television. Music students having vocal training at least upto Keertanam level may attend.
