M.S. Subbalakshmi gold coins from Tanishq

Honouring legendry singer M.S Subbalaksmi, Tanisq has launched in India limited edition gold coins with her image engraved on them. Two thousand special coins of 2 gm, 4 gm and 8 gm weights will be available at the Tanishq stores in the country. The Price of the coins depends on the rate of the gold in the market and hence changes everyday. On April 26 the 2 gm coin cost Rs 6004. This initiative is in aid of The Cancer Institute and the TAG – VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai. Based in Chennai, it was launched in August 28, 2011 by Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer Sheejith Krishna, with a core group of artistes and scholars: Jyothishmathi, Manjari Chandrasekhar, Anjana Anand and Akhila Ramnarayan. Workshops in Thanjavur : on Thirumurais, Compositions of Musical Trinity

Here is are music workshops for musicians to be held in the heart of Thanjavur district. And they are related to a landmark event at a local temple. The Maha Kumbabhishekam of Sri Panchanadeeswara Temple, Tiruvaiyaru is going to be performed early next year. Right from Tevarakaras, many Vaggeyakaras have sung the glory of Aiyaran and Aramvalartha Nayaki. In this connection, the Marabu Foundation which is based in Thillaisthanam (about 12 kms from Thanjavur town) is planning to list out these compositions and collect the authentic versions of the compositions on Panchanadeeswara and Dharmambikai to publish them. These will also carry notation . It has also plans to conduct a series of workshops to teach all the Thirumurai hymns on Tiruvaiyaru, compositions of the Trinity and selected compositions of other composers. The workshops are meant for young musicians, music teachers and senior students who can go on to preserve and propagate these compositions for posterity. The workshops will be conducted on the gurukula pattern at Marabu Foundation, Thillaisthanam near Tiruvaiyaru free of cost.
