Ranga Mandira Academy of World Dance/ Performance and Indic Studies is to be inaugurated on August 2 in Chennai. This is the brainchild of dancer-guru-scholar Dr Swarnamalya. Ranga Mandira Academy of World Dance/ Performance and Indic Studies, says a note looks to refresh the way disciplines are taught. The focus is on intersections between disciplines. The various courses on subaltern dance practices, histories, music pedagogies, arts entrepreneurship, Indological studies such as epigraphy, iconography, gender studies etc will be offered as part-time certificate courses. The tutors are the best experts in the field internationally. At the end of a course evaluation, the program offers a University certificate which will be an academic and career enhancement for students. However, if a student (e.g. an enthusiast) simply wants to learn and interact but not get evaluated and certified, that is made possible too. This apart the courses have many open day classes, workshops etc where the public can have a walk-in on special topics. Also on offer is a course on Arts and Sports which will bring these two celebrated disciplines together, both as an on- field as well as class-room session, to address various social issues. This centre has been recognized as a Ph.D center by Sastra University and are enrolling research candidates, says the note. Contact:
