CHENNAI: Maharajapuram Santhanam memorial awards for 2012
The Maharajapuram Santhanam Foundation, Chennai will present the annual Maharajapuram Santhanam memorial award to Mandolin U. Shrinivas at a function on Oct. 27, 4.30 pm onwards at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar, Chennai. This award carries a cash award of Rs.1 lakh, a gold medal and a citation and memento. Also, meritorious achievement awards are to be given to Vasuda Kesav, S. Srinivasan and R. Ramesh. All awards are instituted by Vijayakumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy in memory of late P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanambal . N. Murali, president, The Music Academy, presides. Prof. T. N. THANJAVUR: Remembering Kittappa Pillai
It was time to remember the late dance maestro Kittappa Pillai at the 6th Dance Memorial Day in Thanjavur on Oct.30, 2012 in Thanjavur, his base. Celebrating it were Kittappa Natyalaya and K P K Chandrasekaran. The event was at Besant Lodge, Thanjavur. The disciples of Chandrasekaran performed and the main dance recital was by Bangalore-based Swetha Lakshman, a disciple of Padmini Rao and Shreyas Krishna of the Ponniah Lalithkala Academy, V V Puram, Bangalore.
