The multi-faceted classical dancer Dr Sonal Mansingh will be on stage at five venues this season. She is not an occasional visitor to the city of Chennai but knows it inside out, and even a smattering of Thamizh.
This past week, she was honored with an award by The Indian Fine Arts Society and when she spoke as part of her award acceptance speech, she too went down memory lane of her links with Chennai.
Of times spent with her guru Dandayuthapani Pillai in the early 19060s, her association with Rukmini Devi and friendship with M S Subbulakshmi . . .
"The rasikas in Madras are sharp and critical and this helps the artiste to bring out the best," she said paying compliments to the city's concert going community.
