Two veteran music artistes were decorated with awards by The Indian Fine Arts Society on its opening evening at a wedding hall in Alwarpet, Chennai on December 17 evening.
The veteran guru and vocalist Dr Tadepalli Lokanadha Sarma from Andhra Pradesh and senior mridangist Trichur Narendran from Kerala.
When their turns came to speak, both veterans had long stories to share, as they rewound their life stories and told the small audience of their journeys, each in its own colorful way.
Sarma recalled that his guru, Chittoor Subramania Pillai had received the title, Sangeetha Kalasikhamani some 50 years ago and now, he, the sishya was being honored with the same by the same arts body which is celebrating the 83rd edition of the South Indian Music Conference and Festival.
Sarma also had some warms words for Prof S R Janakiraman, another guru who was on stage this evening to felicitate him.
Narendran who was Palghat Raghu's sishya and has played across five generations of artistes starting with Chembai said he started out just to learn music and master it than to make a big life or aim for awards.
Dancer Sonal Mansingh was the other artiste honored on this occasion.
