Soak in music and dance by the sea this season. Head to Besant Nagar, to the shore-side campus of Spaces which is the city's hub of independent music, dance and theatre.
Spaces was home to dancer-choreographer-writer Chandraleka. She moved away from Bharatanatyam to explore and include body movements, martial arts like Kalaripayattu and themes like sexuatlity and our bodies, some very provocative.
The 'Tribute to Chandraleka' concert series this week is from Dec.28 to 30. They are free and open to all. (The venue is at the north end of the Besant Nagar beach road)
Dec.28 / 7 pm; T M Krishna with R K Shriramkumar and Arun Prakash- - Carnatic music
Dec. 29 / 7 pm : Presentation of Chandralekha's last work 'Sharira'; features dancers Shaji John and Tishani Doshi, to the music of the Gundecha Brothers.
Dec.30 / 7 pm : Presentation of a short music extract from Chandralekha production 'Sri'; this will serve as theme for discussion on her feminist and choreographic concerns. Contemporary dancers Padmini Chettur, Meera Krishnamurthy and Krishna Devanandan.
