Dance fest hosted by Malavika Sarukkai

Senior Bharatanatyam dancer Malavika Sarukkai and her arts promotion body called 'Kalavaahini' is hosting a three-day classical dance fest at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore from Dec.27 to 29, featuring two senior and well known artistes every evening.

Natya Kala Conference gets big attendance

One has not seen a fully-packed and spilling auditorium for the annual Natya Kala Conference hosted by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in a nook of T. Nagar. But this was the scene as the conference on classical dance opened a shade after 1.20 p.m. on December 26, to unfold five days of talks, lec-dems and dance recitals.

'Padmavati' is theme of this solo dance

Padmavati - An Avatar is a solo operatic theme production based on stories of a temple dancer, who is at the centre of 'Gita Govindam' by poet Jayadeva. Sringara rasa is the sensual thread of this love poem that is woven around Padmavati and Jayadeva.

Remembering Adyar K. Lakshman

Adyar K. Lakshman was a celebrated Bharatanatyam guru. To mark his birth anniversary, his prime disciple Roja Kannan, senior dancer and guru based in Chennai is hosting a dance recital of her disciples at a mantapam inside Sri Kapali Temple, Mylapore on Dec.18 evening. Senior dance gurus N. S. Jayalakshmi, Ambika Buch and Vasanthalakshmi Narasimhachari will speak at this event. Open to all.

Navadhisha – New Voices in Dance – is an annual conference for dancers and is held during the December Season Music season. It was initiated in 2017 by Trinity Arts Festival.

'Vande Mataram' from guru Sheela Unnikrishnan

This is a dance production that hooks up with a theme that India is celebrating - the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 'Vande Mataram' is Chennai-based dance guru Sheela Unnikrishnan's new creation which is all set for December Season 2019.
