Vocalist T. M. Krishna stopped performing during the December Season for sabhas some years ago - on his own volition and for his own reasons.
But he makes an exception for a cause.
So on December 26 evening, when his concert for the Guruvayur Dorai Trust was slated at the TAG Auditorium in Mylapore's P. S. School campus, rasikas streamed in long before the 6.30 p.m. concert which was open to all. And even as the artistes settled down on stage, rasikas were not only seated in the aisle and packed on the stage, but there were dozens stranded outside the hall. The disappointed seniors went back home, saying the host should have arranged to live stream the concert on a screen while some others somehow managed to get into the hall.
Guruvayur Dorai was on mridangam, Akkarai Subhalakshmi was on violin and Udupi Sridhar was on the ghatam.
We hear Krishna will soon be performing for a local NGO that focuses on children.
