Music appreciation course on Dec. 24 and 25

Radha Bhaskar, a musician and musicologist conducts a music appreciation programme every year exclusively for music rasikas and students.

This year the course will be conducted on Dec. 24 and 25 (10am to 4pm) at Infosys Hall.

'The course will introduce fundamentals of Carnatic music, concert format, raga - tala structures, role of accompaniments and easy methods to become familiar with common ragas.' says Radha.

The course is open to limited number of registrants.
The registration fee is Rs. 800 inclusive of lunch and tea.

Box office opens for Kalakshetra fest, starting Dec. 23

For all you classical dance rasikas who wish to be at the annual Kalakshetra fest, we suggest you book your tickets rightaway. Because there are many people who are here to soak in at this renowned campus.

The box office opened on Dec.11 and tickets can be bought only on campus.

The fest commences on Dec.23 with the inaugural programme titled ÔThoughtsÕ, a talaövadya concert by Kaaraikudi Mani, the well known mridangist.

On Dec. 24 is a Kathakali feature ÔKuchelavrittamÕ by artistes of Kalamandalam and Kalakshetra.

On Dec.25, senior artiste O. S. Thyagarajan will give a vocal concert.

On Dec.26, Kalakshetra will present a dance drama titled ÔDasaru Kanda KrishnaÕ with music scored by S. Rajaram and choreographed by Leela Samson with lyrics by Hari Dasar.

On Dec.27- Vasundhara Komkali and Kalaapini Komkali will present a Hindustani vocal concert followed by a lec-dem on Dec.28 at 10 am.

On Dec.28, Kushal Das of Kolkata will give a sitar recital accompanied on the tabla Yogesh Shamsi of Mumbai.

On Dec.29, Kalashetra will present the dance drama ÔSabari MokshamÕ choreographed by the late Rukmini Devi.

On Dec.30, U. Shrinivas will give a mandolin recital.

Events continue till Jan.4, 2007.

The festival programmes will be held at the Koothambalam (Kalakshetra Auditorium) at 6.30 pm.
