Prized Tamburas!

Coinciding with the December music 'season' are a series of arts competitions conducted by sabhas. Events which encourage youngsters and give them an opportunity to come to the fore.

The prizes that young learners win in the competitions held by The Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha and MFAC are considered to be quite prestigious by these young people.

When K. Bhavya and J. R. Apoorva won a tambura in the senior and junior categories of vocal competitions held by MFAC it was an occasion to celebrate.

Bhavya is a post grad student in music at the Madras University and is the daughter of vocalist T. V. Sundaravalli. She is also trains in music under Padma Sandilyan. She won four other prizes at this sabha.

Young J. R. Apoorva is a class 6 student at Jawahar Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar.

Inspired and coached by her grand mother Shanthi Jayaraman, Apoorva is a student of vocalist Neyveli Santhanagopalan and T. G. Badrinarayanan.

She currently trains under 'Chitravina' Ravikiran.

Apoorva who won seven other prizes from the same sabha, performs vocal duet concerts with her elder sister Anahita.
