Felicitation for all awardees: the Nalli party!

The curtains of the 'December season' will be down in a few days. Nearly a hundred sabhas hosted music concerts and dance recitals all over the city and presented awards in so many innovative names!

Nalli Kuppusami Chetty has a party for all the awardees - at Hotel Woodlands, near The Music Academy. He has been doing it for the past few years.

The atmosphere at Nalli's party is quite in contrast to the dull inaugural functions, where long speeches precede the award ceremony.

The January 3 party could be just the event where artistes, sabha chiefs and diehard rasikas can chat and compare notes.

The programme is open only to invitees.

O. S. Arun will present a vocal concert for an hour before the felicitation function, which will be followed by a traditional dinner!

DVD on music learning

Musician-guru Mysore Nagamani Srinath has gone a step ahead to tap technology to teach music. Though there are audio cassettes and CDs already available in the market for learning music, for those who want to learn the art at their own pace, a DVD could help.

Brought out in two volumes, the DVDs titled Gurukula are produced by Swathi Soft Solutions under their Sanskriti series. The DVDs have a booklet containing the lessons and the notations of the learning exercises.

Nagamani teaches a few easy slokas, which the learners will find easy to follow. The first volume of the DVDs contain Sarali varisai, Datuvarisai and a demo of akara sadhana.

The chorus singing by students following the teacher can easily be understood by the learner.

The practical sessions in different sthayis is a special feature.

The second volume consists of Jante varisai and sapta tala alankarams and are explained in a lucid manner. All the notations and explanations are in English. Four geethams are taught in the DVD.

Each DVD is priced at Rs. 600
