Seminar on 'Popular Music': Jan. 10, 11
University of Madras will be conducting an International Seminar titled 'Popular Music'. on Jan. 10 and 11.
This is held as part of the Sesquicentennial (150th year) celebrations of the University of Madras and the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Department of Indian Music.
The seminar will be held at Hotel Savera, Mylapore, from 9.30am onwards on Jan. 10.
The forenoon session will be chaired by historian - writer V. A. K. Ranga Rao. Senior musicians and musicologists will present a paper each from topics ranging from 'Musicians of Yesteryears' by V. Sriram to 'Folk Music' by Dr. S. A. K. Durga.
The afternoon session will be chaired by musicologist
Dr. V. V. Srivatsa and has interesting papers on Harikatha by Dr. M. Prameela and 'Influence of Hollywood on Indian Cinema' by Randor Guy, amongst others.
On Jan. 11, papers on Vainika Styles by Rajshri Sripathy and on percussion artistes by ghatam Kartik will be the highlights among papers presented by various scholars.
While admission is open to delegates, observes can attend the seminar on payment of Rs.300 as registration fee.
