Ankle injury keeps Urmila Satyanarayanan off the season

Dancer Urmila Sathyanarayanan, one of the leading dancers during the season cancels all her programmes because of an ankle injury. She said “I have been advised to rest my ankle for two months which I twisted during my practice. I can walk but can’t exert pressure on the ankle now”. She was supposed to perform in all the leading Sabhas during the December season but due to the injury not even one programme can she perform.

“It’s really sad for me because I have been waiting to perform during the season but at least I am glad that I don’t have any broken bones. Its just a bad twist and can be cured only by resting it as there is no other treatment for it ”said Urmila.

Her production ‘Sri Padam’ that was choreographed specially for the season on Vaishnavism is also not being staged as she was supposed to dance along with her students. The dance lovers will miss one of the best dancers during the season.

Meghasandesa in Bharatanatyam

Chennai-based dance-gurus M. V. Narasimhachari and Vasanthalakshmi Narasimhachari say that their fascination of the verses of the timeless Sanskrit classic Meghasandesa, has now inspired them to work on a new production.

Considered to be the finest among romantic poetry and one of the masterpieces of Sanskrit literature, Meghasandesa, is a perfect piece for a dance drama, the Narasimhacharis thought.

With lyrical additions and elaboration by Yamijala Padmanabhaswami, 'Meghasandesa' will be presented by the students of Kalasamarpana Foundation in the classical Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi styles for the December season in Chennai. The production will be interspersed with rhythmic folk dances also.

A team of over fifty musicians, instrumentalists, dancers and technicians are behind this endeavour.

The dance drama will be staged on Dec.3 at 6pm for Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar, Chennai.

The Narasimhacharis are also working on another production 'Leeye Parabrahmani' - a thematic presentation in Bharathanatyam style based on the concept of Nava Vidha Bhakti, the nine modes of devotion.
