Ramesh
( formerly UMA BALASUBRAMANIAN) started learning Bharatanatyam
at the age of five from the late guru K. J. Govindarajan,
in New Delhi.
Since her Arangetram in 1981 she never looked back. In her
pursuit towards attaining perfection she underwent further
training under guru Smt. S. Kanaka, also in New Delhi.
She is A Top-Grade Artist with Doordarshan and also an empanelled
artist in the ESTABLISHED CATEGORY with Indian Council for Cultural Relations(ICCR), New
Delhi.
She has performed at several prestigious festivals and venues
in India and abroad. She is currently getting trained in Abhinaya by Smt. Bragha Bessel. Uma performs, teaches, choreographs and holds
workshops.

It
is a means for me to communicate. It is something very
sacred and special. Through dance I feel connected to
divinity. Several times while dancing, I feel I cease
to exist and it is only the rythm and the ragam which
are alive.
I
prefer giving only solo-programmes as the empty canvas,
provided by any song or rythmic piece, can be filled
with the colours of my creativity, something over which
i will have total control.
I
would love to make my dance reach out to all. HAPPINESS
IS . . . . If, after my show is over, the audience goes
back with the message that I have tried to convey, deeply
embedded in their hearts.
