Here comes another play based on saint Thyagaraja.
This time from the United Visuals stable of actor-dramatist T. V. Varadarajen who is based in Chennai.
Woven into the life and times of this saint-composer is his music - the play features 30 kritis sung by many known and less known artistes - the voices and the music have been recorded and will flow through the play.
While Bombay Jayashri sings songs attributed to Thyagaraja's wife in this play, artistes O S Arun, Shertalai Ranganatha Sharma and Kunnakudy Balamuralikrishna have sung songs attributed to the composer, on this stage.
Leading artistes like Embar Kannan and Ganapathiraman have played alongside - all in the studio.
Artist-cartoonist Keshav of The Hindu has contributed illustrations which will appear on the big screen - when the narration of the early years of Thyagaraja unfolds on stage.
The play has been written by journalist V. Srinivasan; he has also written the dialogues. Varadarajen plays the role of Thyagaraja.
The play - 'Saint Tyagarajar' - is the opening show at the launch of Kartik Fine Arts' December season fest. On Dec.1 evening at Narada Gana Sabha.
On Dec.2 evening, the play plays at Music Academy.
This is a ticketed show. Tickets will be sold at the venues.
