Percussive Arts Centre's annual Thalavadyotsav from July 9

Bangalore-based Percussive Arts Centre (PAC) is hosting its annual Thalavadyotsav from July 9 to 13 at Bangalore Gayana Samaj.
The fest will also celebrate the birth centenary of the legendary maestro Palani Subramanya Pillai.
PAC was founder by the late Bangalore K. Venkataraman.
Every evening, there will be a lec-dem which focuses on the percussive arts followed by a concert. Vidwan R. K. Padmanabha opens the fest with his concert on July 9.

On July 10, vidwan Srimushnam V. Raja Rao will talk on 'The Palani Subramanya Pillai school of percussion'. This will be followed by a concert by T. M. Krishna.

On July 11, N. Amrit's lec-dem is on ' Growth and Development of Khanjari playing techniques'. The concert that follows is of R. A. Ramamani.

On July 12, Madurai T. Srinivasan talks on ' Layam' and the eoncert is of N.Vijay Siva.

The finale is on Sunday morning (July 13, 10 a.m. onwards).

The Palani Subramanya Pillai Centenary Memorial Award will be given to D. K. Pattammal while the Palghat Mani Iyer Memorial Award will be given to Madurai T. Srinivasan.

The Bangalore K. Venkataraman Memorial Award will be given to Dr. R. Sathyanarayana and the H. Puttachar Memorial Award will be given to N. Vasudev.

Prizes to young artistes who won various competitions held by PAC will also be given on this occasion.
The show ends with a percussion ensemble concert called ' Laya Vinyasa' by Vrushti group, directed by Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma.
Mridangist V. Krishna of PAC says that friends and well wishers of Bangalore K. Venkataram are requested to contribute towards the creation of a permanent endowment which will help PAC to present this particular Award to eminent and deserving persons.

Veena Seshanna Awards

The Veena Seshanna Memorial National Award for this year will be given to veteran veena artiste 84-year-old Kalpagam Swaminthan of Chennai.
Also, the annual Swara Murthy V N Rao Memorial Award will be given to the Rudrapatna Brothers - R. N. Tharanathan and .R N. Thyagarajan.
Both awards carry a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and a citation.
Instituted by the Swara Murthy V N Rao Memorial Trust, they will be presented on July 20 at the Gayana Samaj auditoirum in Bangalore during a two-day music fest 'Veeneya Bedagu 2008'.

Ananya's youth music festival, Bangalore: June 4 to 8

Ananya's annual youth music festival and awards ceremony is on in Bangalore from June 4 to 8.
On June 5, 6 and 7, leading young artistes of Karnataka will present concerts at four different venues in the city - in Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, BSK 2nd Stage and in JP Nagar.

On June 8, at the Seva Sadana hall, Malleswaram, the awards ceremony will be held from 9.45 a.m. onwards.
Awards are to be given to vidwan Venkateshachar, Dr. K. Varadarangan and three young artistes - Hamsini Nagendra, Jyothsna Manjunath and H. L. Shivasankaraswamy.

There will also be a music concert - Navavidha Bhakthi in Sri Thyagaraja and Haridasa compositions.
This has been conceptualised by Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar and presented by students of the Surabhi Gana Kala Mandira, Mysore.

Ananya's dance fest for young artistes

Ananya, the Bangalore-based arts centre, is hosting a two days dance fest on May 24 and 25 at Bharathiya Vidya Bhawan, Race Course Road, Bangalore.

On May 24, dancers Ujwal (Kuchipudi), Shweta Krishna (Odissi) and Aishwarya Nithyananda (Bharatanatyam ) will perform.
On May 25, the performances are by Mridula Anand (Kathak), Navami Arun (Mohiniattam) and Shivaranjani (Bharatanatyam). The programmes start at 6 p.m.

Music fest in Bangalore

The 37th Bhagavath Sri Shankara Jayanthi and Music Fest of Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha Trust in Bangalore is hosting a music fest from May 5 to 11.
The fest is on at Sri Vani Education Centre, (4th Main, 2nd Stage, Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore-10.) Vidwan R K Padmanabha is the president of this fest.

Various mandalis will perform at the venue in the morning while the main concerts are in the evening.
The artistes who will perform include Shubhamangala Raghunandan (vocal), M K Pranesh and Praveen Godkindi (flute), Chaitra Raghunandan (vocal), K. Subhaganga (vocal), Geetha Ramanand and Revathi Murthy (veena duet), Sweetha Venkatesh (vocal), Vidya Bhushana (vocal), R Archana (vocal), S R Vinay Sharva (vocal), Sahana Ramachandra (vocal) and Amrutha Venkatesh (vocal).

On the final day, the Sri Sankara jayanthi sangeethothsava is at 8 a.m. and at 11 a.m., Karthik Hebbar makes a multimedia presentation on 'Sri Thyagaraja's Life and Bhakthi'.In the evening, vidwan R K Padmanabha will be honoured with the 'Kalabhhoshana' title.
The vidwan will then perform at the 6.30 p.m. concert.
The Trust had also conducted music competitions for junior artistes and music students and the best will be given prizes at the fest.

World Dance Day celebration / Bangalore

Chidambara Sabha Natana Yajna is an offering through dance by well known dancers and dance students from various dance schools on World Dance Day to be held in Bangalore.
The event will be held on May 1, 2008 from 7 am to 9 am.
At Ravindra Kala Kshetra, J. C. Road, Bangalore.
As many as 30 dancers will pay their tribute in sessions of 10 minutes and 20 minutes.
There are also academic sessions by eminent dancers, dance gurus and critics on various aspects of dance.
Indian and Nigerian folk dances will also be presented on this ocassion.
The valedictory will be held at the same venue at 6.30 pm.

Celebrating love through music in Bangalore

Young vocalist Manasi Prasad will present a special concert to celebrate the universal emotion of love.

Taking inspiration from the universal theme, ‘Olave Jeevana Saakshaatkara’ will be a Carnatic classical music concert conceptualised by Manasi Prasad. This concert will be in the format of a traditional Carnatic music concert, but with the theme of all compositions reflecting love of one sort or another.

She will be using a stage specially set for the theme and mood lighting.

Bharat Sangeet Utsav / Bangalore

Carnatica Archival Centre for music and dance, Bangalore has organised a festival of Indian classical music and dance, Bharat Sangeet Utsav 2008, in Bangalore from February 7 to 10.

On the inaugural day, a concert Raga Fantasy, a confluence of Carnatic and Hindustani sangeet by veena artiste Suma Sudhindra and flutist Praveen Godkhindi will be held at 4.45 pm.
At Christ College auditorium, Bangalore.

Carnatic musicians Lalgudi G. J. R. Krishnan and Vijayalakshmi, Sikkil Gurucharan, Charulatha Ramanujan, Cheluvaraju, Sukanya Ramgopal, Manasi Prasad, R. K. Srikantan, R. S. Ramakanth, Prof. V. V. Subrahmanyam, V. V. S. Murari, Mastar Akash, Gayathri Venkataraghavan will be performing in the festival. Hindustani classical musicians Begum Parveen Sultana, Vishwa Mohan Bhat, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and Ravindra Yavagal are also featured at this festival.

The annual thematic music and dance festival in Bangalore, Aanandaa Festival will be on from Jan. 13 to 19, 2008.
