A week-long Abhinayam workshop held in June was attended by a group of students of different age groups in Miramar, Florida. The participants had the opportunity to attend the workshop conducted by Indira Kadambi and organized by Sangeetha Sridhar of Padmasri Dance Academy. Sangeetha is a senior disciple of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.
The workshop was based on Kalanidhi Narayanan's style of abhinaya. The participants were taught the Ragamalika Devarnama “Chikkave ivano”.
The participants learnt how to use their eyes to convey the different moods and to register and change expressions in a quick manner.
Each verse of the Devarnama was explained in detail before the abhinaya was taught. Indira observed each participant’s expressions individually and give them suggestions and ideas to improve on their Abhinaya skills.
