One of the largest Indian classical music festivals in North America, the Cleveland St. Thyagaraja Aradhana is scheduled between 19 and 27 April this year.
The aradhana which was first celebrated in 1978 and has now grown to a week-long festival with more than 2000 attendees every year.
This year, the organisers also celebrate the birth centenary of Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar, and the Diamond Jubilee of Kalki (Tamil Magazine). Plans are on to have more than 25 concerts over 10 days, besides lectures, workshops and demonstrations.
Among several other artistes, the concerts feature Lalgudi trio, R.K. Srikantan, Sudha Raghunathan, N. Ramani, M.S. Sheela, Subhashree Ramachandran, Ganesh Kumaresh, Sangita Swaminathan, Ravikiran, Geetha Rajashekar, T.K. Govinda Rao, Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Suguna Purushothaman, Kalpana Venkat, M.A. Ramamani, Mysore Manjunath-Nagaraj, Sowmya, R. Jayanthi, Ranjani-Gayathri, Sashikiran-Ganesh, Bombay Jayashree, P.S. Narayanaswamy, T.M. Krishna, Asha Ramesh, Geetha Rajashekar.
A special dance concert on 20 April features Alarmel Valli and not Urmila Sathyanarayanan as scheduled before.
Lecture demonstration and workshop on dance and musical aspects of Lalgudi Jayaraman's compositions will be led by dance guru Raadha.
Lec dems also feature Sanjay Subrahmanyam, N. Ravikiran (on Compositions of Oothukaadu Venkata Kavi), V. Rajaram (on compositions of Mysore Vasudevachar) and T.K. Murthy in a mridangam-demo.
