M.S. Sheela swirls the audience in Sydney
Close your eyes; you hear the style and voice of the very grand masters of music. Firmly in tradition, with no gimmicks or stunts, but with an absolute grace, Sheela held the audience spell bound for three and half hours in her vocal Carnatic music concert in Sydney.

Sheela was supported by Charulatha Ramanujam on violin and Anoor Ananta Krishna Sharma on mridnagam. The concert was organised by Pallavi, Sydney at the auditorium of the Ryde Civic Centre on March 8 and attended by about three hundred people, mostly of Indian origin, who had driven from far distances. The stage setting, people and the snacks on sale outside could have been easily mistaken for any venue in India.

Sheela's rendering included Kalyani (Himadri suthe), Keeravani (Kalisi yunte gada) and Hindola. The Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi in Hindola came out to be a treat along with the ragamalika in Mohana, Kapi and Behag.

The shorter items presented by Sheela were Venakta Ramanane, Hoo beke, Pibare Ramarasam and the devaranamas.

One needs to mention also the house concert that Sheela gave (with the same accompaniment) the day after the public concert. The concert made the audience just close their eyes, fold their hands and think of the eternity...

Upcoming events in Sydney: The Sydney Music Circle organises a concert every last Saturday of the month. The Ugadi festival will be celebrated on April 6 here.
