Sampradaya an organisation engaged in documentation and archiving of South Indian music traditions in Madras, celebrates its 22nd anniversary with a three-day music and dance fest. Scheduled from September 29 to October 1, 2003 at Vani Mahal, T. Nagar. Organisers say that the fest will focus on the relevance of music in dance expression Schedule:
29 Sept.:
6.30 pm: Brief lecture by dancer and vocalist Ambika Kameshwar, Director, RASA on the theme 'Dance as Visual Music' (importance of dancer's knowledge and awareness of music) followed by dance performance by disciples of Ambika Kameshwar.
30 Sept:
10.30 am to 5 pm: Lec-Dems
- Importance of Kalapramanam and maintaining the tempo.
- Enunciation of words and stress on the syllables-Vallinam, mellinam-how it adds to the evocative nature of the music.
- Rare Varnams of Pandanallur and Dandayudapani Pillai by S. Rajeswari, Principal, Tamil Nadu Music College. Neraval for Sanchari in Abhinaya. How does it differ from kutcheri Neraval?
- Navarasas in Tyagaraja's compositions, Bhava element and importance in dance music - by USjatha Vijayaraghavan
6.30 pm: Dance recital by Gayathri Balagurunathan, featuring Mysore Vasudevachar Compositions
1 October:

- What sort of compositions offer scope for Abhinaya
- Translation of music into movement in Nritta and in Abhinaya
- Rare Padams and Javalis of Veena Dhanammal School by Dr. Ritha Rajan
- Mysore Vasudevachar's contribution to dance by Krishnaveni Lakshman
6.30 pm: Dance recital by Sumitra Nitin featuring Muthaiya Bhagavatar's kritis.
