| The Music Academy December fest from Dec.18 |   | |||
| The Executive Committee of The Music Academy, Madras, which met under the presidentship of T.T. Vasu at its meeting held on 11 October 2003 at Kasturi Srinivasan Hall, finalised the dates for the annual music competitions, Spirit of Youth Festival of Music & Dance and 77th Annual Conference and Concerts to be held during December 2003.
The music competitions will be held on November 7, 8 and 9 2003 while 'Spirit of Youth' Festival of Music & Dance will be held from October 25 to 29 and from November 3 to 7. The 77th Annual Conference and concerts will be held from December 18, 2003 to 1 January 2004. The President of the Conference will be finalised at the next meeting of Executive Committee. The opposing side, of Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, did not take part in the meeting. President T .T . Vasu also stayed away. Some members said invites were sent to all members of the EC.
It has been confirmed that the Spirit of Youth Festival which presents a selection of the best singers, musicians and dancers, will be held soon. This is a prestigious event that young talented artistes look forward to.
It has also been decided to commemorate the centenary of dancer Rukmini Devi Arundale who started Kalakshetra, the campus for arts and culture in south Chennai. A few lectures at the conference will be devoted to dance and dance-dramas.
A committee, to choose the artiste who is annually honoured with the Sangita Kalanidhi title, will be formed.
This process should have been over by now but the legal wrangles and administration mess, has delayed this and many other events.
