Kalasagaram's fest

Kalasagaram of Secunderabad hosted its 36th annual fest of Carnatic Music, Bharatanatyam and Drama recently at a specially erected pandal in Keys High School. Inaugurated by the former Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, V. S. Ramadevi, Kalasagaram presented many outstanding artistes. On the first day, Sudha Raghunathan was honoured with the title 'Sangetha Kalasagara'.

Concerts featured Sudha Raghunathan, Malladi Brothers, Srirama Prasad and Ravi Kumar, Prancharam Sitaram (Flute) and Lalgudi Subramaniam and Vijayalakshmi (Violin Duo).

Urmila Sathyanarayanan presented a dance drama 'Panchali Sapatham'. Also, B.R.C. Iyengar's (the noted art critic) multimedia presentation on Saint Thyagaraja was released on this occasion. A book on 'Fundamentals of Flute Playing' authored by flautist Jayaprada Ramamurthy was also released here. (Jayaprada also received 'The Best Senior Flautist' award from The Indian Fine Arts Society in Chennai on January 4, 2004).

Sudha Raghunathan instituted a prize in honour of Late MLV, for the best Senior Singer in rendering Purandara Dasa Kirthanas.
