 It was time for dance guru Adyar Lakshmanan to celebrate. His dance academy Bharatha Choodamani put up a two-day event that marked the Birth Centenary of Rukmini Devi Arundale, the 70th birthday of Adyar Lakshmanan, 60 years of his association with Kalakshetra, 50 years of his service in the field of Bharatanatyam and music and the 35th anniversary of his institution Bharatha Choodamani.
The venue was Mylapore Fine Arts Club auditorium in Chennai. On the occasion, Lakshmanan honoured his gurus Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan, Sharada Hoffman of Kalakshetra and 'Periya' Sarada (represented by Sundari, who recited a mantra on behalf of Sharada) and M.D. Mani. The chief guests were Krishna Raja Vanavarayar, Chariman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore Kendra and A. Sambandam Secretary, Natyanjali Trust, Chidambaram. Performances featured students of Bharatha Choodamani, Neena Prasad (Mohiniattam), Rasika Khanna, Jayanthi Subramaniam, Roja Kannan, students of Nagamani Srinivasa Rao, Jayashree and Vidhyashree, Radha Anjali, Susheela Mehta, Deepak Mazumdhar and 'Naachiyar' by Anita Ratnam, Arangham Dance Theatre and Revathi Sankkaran.
