| A Chennai based rasika, S. Venkataraman has put up a rare Carnatic collection for sale. 100 audio spools of old masters like Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, G.N. Balasubramaniam, Madurai Mani Iyer, Rajaratnam Pillai and M.S. Subbulakshmi as well as live recordings of kutcheris are up for sale. Venkataraman has collected them over a period of 40 years.
One of the spools contains eight hours of pooja rituals at Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati that Venkataraman recorded himself. Says Venkataraman, "I was a lover of music. I also used to give vocal concerts and lecture-demonstrations till about 25 years ago. I last performed at the Music Club in 1979. I am selling this collection because of my age. Also, I have converted them on to CDs". Venkataraman also wants to sell two recorders--an Akai and a National. He adds, "I think Carnatic music lovers will want to own these."
Venkataraman who was in the steel business, resides at 7, Desikachari Road, Mylapore, Chennai - 4. He can be contacted on Ph: 044-24992634. |
