The South India Cultural Association (SICA), founded in 1958, celebrated its 45th anniversary, by presenting a special violin concert by Dr. M. Narmada, daughter of violin maestro M. S. Gopalakrishnan. This was the first solo concert of Narmada in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. While she is adept at rendering Hindusthani classical music also, for the most part she stuck to the Carnatic compositions. B.Sivaraman on mridangam and Coimbatore Viswanathan on ghatam provided good support.
Chaitanya Arts presented a vocal concert by Subramanyam Yadavalli. Subramanyam is the CEO of Cooptions Technologies Ltd., a Hyderabad based I.T. company. Though Subramanyam had extensive training in Carnatic music during his earlier days, this was his first performance after a lapse of 20 years. It was a 75-minute concert, with no extensive raga alapana or swara kalpana. T. Subbalaxmi provided violin support and Jayakumarachari on the mridangam. Chaitanya Arts needs to be congratulated for promptness in starting the program at 6.42pm as announced in the invitation, even though the honoured guests did not show up until around 7.15pm!
Annamacharya Bhavana Vahini organized the Annamayya Ashtothara Satha Sankeertanaa Yagnam. This was a 3-day rendering of Annamacharya Keerthanas. Several local artistes and cine playback singers B. Vijayalakshmi and Sandeep participated in programme.
