Radel, manufacturers of Indian musical instruments, celebrated its Silver Jubilee in Hyderabad on 12 June 2004, at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chickadapally.
Music critic B.R.C. Iyengar gave the keynote address. Radel's President, Raj Narayan honoured several Carnatic and Hindusthani musicians, including the Hyderabad Brothers Seshachari and Raghavachari, Vidushi Malini Rajourkar, flautist N. S. Srinivasan and Govindrao Dantulay. D. Srinivas, an upcoming veena artist, performed on Radel's electronic Veena.
Speaking to KutcheriBuzz, Raj Narayan pointed out several features of the electronic Veena. It is portable with easily removable gourds at either end, one of them having the Tamboora beat. It has movable frets to adjust the Swara frequencies with great ease as opposed to the 'waxed-in' frets in the classical Veena. It also has a built-in battery back up, in case of power failure.
Malini Rajourkar ended the evening with rendition of a few Hindusthani Raags. Several other artistes like the Hyderabad Sisters were present on the occasion. Radel celebrates its silver jubilee in Chennai on June 20, at 5.45 pm at Vani Mahal's auditorium, T. Nagar, Chennai. Dr.M. Balamuralikrishna will launch the new model of 'Talometer'. A vocal concert will feature T.M. Krishna.
