 Commemorating the 100 years of recorded music in India, Doordarshan and AIR have brought out several audio and video CDs of music concerts and dance performances from their archives.
The latest release is a VCD and audio CD of the doyen of Carnatic music, M.S. Subbulakshmi. The VCD features some of the rare recordings of the Trinity kritis and devotional music in Hindi and Sanskrit, rendered by M.S and recorded over a span of 30 years. Another latest release is the Nagaswaram video and audio CD. This features Nagaswaram concerts by Sheik Chinnamaulana and Namagiripettai K. Krishnan. Released recently from the All India Radio's archives are recordings of Musiri Subramania Iyer (with vocal support by T. K. Govinda Rao, K. S. Venketaraman), Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer (V. R. Krishnan - vocal support), M. D. Ramanathan and Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu. The accompanists for the above concerts include Lalgudi G.Jayaraman, T.N.Krishnan - violin, Trichy Sankaran, Coimbatore N.Ramaswami, Vellore Ramabhadran, Umayalpuram K.Sivaraman - Mridangam, K. M.Vaidyanathan - Ghatam, V. Nagarajan - Khanjira. Doordarshan has also brought out VCDs featuring the dance performances of top artistes of Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Kathak, Odissi and Manipuri. And the music CDs feature M.L. Vasanthakumari, Sufiana Qawwalis, Begum Akhtar, Mallikarjun Mansoor and Ustad Bismillah Khan. These CDs have been selling fast among dancers, musicians and rasikas in the past one year.
