The United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) announces the Fulbright fellowships for the academic year 2005-2006.
Open to Indian mid-career creative artistes, museum and heritage conservation professionals, or those associated with the management of arts and cultural institutions/ organizations in India. The program offers fellowships for a duration of 2-6 months in the fields of:
Plastics and Performing Arts:
Indian artistes can familiarize themselves with the contemporary art scene in the U.S. and share their expertise with the American people through workshops, exhibitions, and demonstrations.
Plastic Arts include fine arts like painting and drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and photography. Performing Arts include dance, drama, and music (both vocal and instrumental). Traditional art forms will be encouraged.
Museum Studies, Arts/Culture Management and Heritage Conservation:
The fellowships will enable museum and heritage conservation professionals and/or those employed in Arts/Culture organizations to audit non-degree courses at U.S. universities/institutions in relevant areas and to gain practical work experience in suitable settings in the U.S.
Grant Benefits: The fellowships provide round trip travel from India to the U.S., a moderate monthly stipend, limited health insurance, other applicable allowances and university fees, if any. No allowance or travel is provided for dependents and the stipend provided under the grant is not sufficient to support family members.
Eligibility Requirements:
Plastics and Performing Arts applicants:
Applicants should have completed their formal education (or have substantive training under the auspices of the traditional guru-shishya parampara). Those who have received training under the guru-shishya parampara must attach a letter to the application attesting to the length of study and the teacher's assessment of their level of skill; be a mid-career artist with a substantial body of work/professional experience; either be employed in Indian art/cultural/educational institutions or be self-employed. Applicants working in institutions should be eligible for leave: their applications must indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship; and be preferably between 25 and 40 years of age.
Museum Studies Arts/Culture Management and Heritage Conservation applicants should have completed their formal education (preferably a postgraduate degree in the relevant area) and have substantive professional experience in the field of Museum Studies, or Arts/Culture Management or Heritage Conservation respectively; Museum Studies applicants should be employed in museums in India. Arts/ Culture Management and Heritage Conservation applicants should be employed in Indian art and culture institutions or organizations. Applicants should be eligible for leave and should indicate that leave will be granted for the fellowship; and be preferably between 25 and 40 years of age.
Applicants should be proficient in English. They must demonstrate proficiency in the English language commensurate with the project that they wish to pursue, and which is adequate to adjust to life in the U.S. All applicants will be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
