New book on mridangam playing

A new book on mridangam, 'Korvais made Easy' authored by mridangist M.N. Hariharan was released on July 27, 2004 at an event in Chennai. The book was released by leading mridangist Karaikudi Mani and the first copy was received by Madurai T. Srinivasan at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's auditorium, Chennai.

The book enables Carnatic musicians and percussionists to compose 'Korvais' in various talams, nadais (tempo) and for various eduppu of the song.

Hariharan who has authored the book is a recipient of the Junior Fellowship for research in Mridangam from the Department of Culture, Government of India.

The book release function also featured a Mridangam Thaniavarathanam programme. The theme was 'Pallavis in 5 Nadais in Adhi Talam'. Young vocalist M. Balamuralikrishna rendered the Pallavis and the Thaniavarathanam was performed by T. Sampath.
