Natyarangam, the dance wing of Narada Gana Sabha hosts its annual thematic dance festival from August 27 to 31, 2004 at the sabha's auditorium on T.T.K. Road.
The five day festival focuses on 'laya' (rhythm) in dance. Bharatanatyam dancers collaborate with percussion artistes to explore the intricacies of rhythm as applied in instruments like mridangam, thavil, ghatam and kanjira.
The dancers being featured are Anuradha and Shridhar (from Bangalore), Sheejith Krishna, Sreelatha Vinod, Manjari and Revathi Ramachandran. The resource persons are percussionists Anoor R. Ananthakrishna Sharma, Haridwaramangalam A.K. Palanivel, T.V. Gopalakrishnan, T.H. Vinayakaram and N. Ganesh Kumar.
Every year, specific themes are given to Bharatanatyam dancers who work with resource persons to create a new production exclusively for this fest. So far, Natyarangam has presented themes on Indian epics, Navarasa (nine human emotions in dance), Harikatha, religions, contemporary poetry and so on.
Natyarangam also presents endowment awards to dance guru Acharya Parvatikumar, senior flautist A.V. Unnikrishnan and dancers Manjari and Adith Narayan on this occasion.
