Whistle kutcheri enthralls rasikas / Hyderabad

Srutilaya Art Theaters presented a unique concert of Thagaraja Kirtanas by whistler Sivaprasad on August 20 at Ravindra Bharathi.

Sivaprasad whistled his way through several of the compositions including Raagalapana and Swarakalpana for nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes. The renditions included Sri Ganapathini (Sowrashtra), Sadhinchenay (Aarabhi), Evarani (Devamruthavarshini), Pakkala Nilabadi (Kharahara Priya), Evarura (Mohana), Brochevarevaray (Sriranjani), Paramathmudu (Vaghadeeswari), Nagumomu Ganaleni (Abheri), ending with Nagumomu Galavani (Madhyamavathi). The rasikas who packed Ravindra Bharathi, seemed to enjoy this unusual whistle concert and applauded throughout the concert.

Peri Sriramamurthy (violin), D.S.R.Murthy (mridangam), P.V. Ramana Murthy (ghatam), Naziruddin Javed (tabla) and G. Satyasayi (morsing) were the instrumental accompanists for whistler Sivaprasad.

Vocalist Balamurali Krishna, Sivaprasad's guru was present too.

In another event on August 14, Nadopasana, Hyderabad, presented an exclusive programme of Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavatar compositions.

Commencing the programme was V. Balasubramanyam who presented a paper on the life and contribution of Muthiah Bhagavatar, detailing the rich treasure of compositions he left to the world of music. A concert by Seshulata Viswanath, a faculty member of the Dept. of Music at the Telugu University followed the presentation.

The concert featured Varnam in Khamas, followed by 'Gam Ganapathe' in Hamsadhwani, 'Tappulanniyu' in Bowli, 'Durga Devi' in Navarasa Kannada and 'Vijayambike' in Vijayanagari, 'Easwari Rajeswari' in Abheri, and 'Sahaja guna' in Sankarabharanam. The programme concluded with a thillana, 'Dhim tare nare' in raga Hamsanandi.

P.V. Ramana Murthy on the mridangam and Dinakar on violin accompanied. Senior musician Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana presided over the function and felicitated the artistes.
