Shankarananda Kalakshetra presented a collage of Bharatanatyam performances, choreographed and directed by its founder Ananda Shankar Jayant, at Ravindra Bharathi on the 2 September 2004. Sponsored by Shriram Group of Industries, the evening showcased several of Ananda's earlier as well as a couple of new group dances.
After 'Pushpanjali' (Gambheer Nattai), and 'Ganesha Vandana' (Nattai), the troupe led by Ananda herself, performed 'Dashavataram' (Ragamalika), based on composition of Jayadeva praising the love of Radha and Krishna and went on to describe the ten avatars (incarnations) of Lord Vishnu.
Prema Ramamurthy set the musical score. Then came 'Om Namah Shivaya' (Revati), based on a composition of Swami Dayananda Saraswathi describing Shiva's Tandava, set to music by Maharajapuram Santhanam. After a solo rendering of a Meera Bhajan (Mishra Malkauns) by Ananda came the group Thillana 'Kalinga Narthana' (Gambheer Nattai), a composition by Uttudadu Venkata Subba Iyer in Sanskrit.
Ananda's troupe included M. Mamata, Manjula Dorairaj, B.Aarati, Purnima Ashokkumar, O. Divya, and T. Radhika. Renuka Prasad (Nattuvangam), S. Venumadhav (Vocal), T.P.Balasubramanyam (Mridangam), K. Sai Kumar (Violin), Uma Muralikrishna (Flute) and Sridharacharya (Percussion) provided the orchestral support.
A.P. Minister for Tourism Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, Chairman of A.P. Tourism C. Anjaneya Reddy were present.
