It was time to celebrate at their hometown. For the Sikkil Sisters. At the kumbhabishekam of the Sikkil Singaravelavar temple, held in late August, the celebrated flautists, Kunjumani and Neela, were honoured for receiving the national award of 'Padma Shri' this year.

The Vizha committee headed by engineer Kandavelu had put the event together.

Kunjumani told Kutcheribuzz, "Since we were born and brought up in Sikkil, all our relatives and friends there were proud of us and wanted to honour us. They presented us a crown of flowers. We were very happy to be back home to celebrate the kumbabhishekam with our people...".

Tavil Vidwan Haridwaramangalam A. K. Palanivel was also honoured. A concert by Sikkil Sisters accompanied by Palanivel on thavil was a special treat for the Sikkilites...
