Workshops in Bharatanatyam / U.K

DeepaUpasana, a recently formed organization in Manchester, U.K., to promote Indian culture and arts, is holding a series of workshops on Bharatanatyam.

The first free workshop," What is Bharatanatyam" is open to all adults and children and will be held at the Studio at the Lowry on 31 January, 2005 between 6 pm and 7.45 pm. It is designed to introduce the participant to the ancient tradition of Bharatanatyam and will take them through the outlines of the workshops to follow all of which are from 6 pm to 7.45 pm at the Studios at The Lowry.

The schedule:
9 February - Abhinaya (mime and expression)
16 February - Bharatanatyam Repertoire
2 March - Dances of India
9 March - Di Ti Tai (rhythmic aspects)
23 March - The art and tradition of story telling in India

Price per workshop: adult - £5, concessions- £3.50.
Price for all 5 workshops: adult - £20, concessions - £15.

For those interested in the techniques of Bharatanatyam, regular classes will be conducted by Upasana every Monday and Wednesday from 5 pm to 6 pm at The Lowry Studios.

Upasana is headed by Bharatanatyam dancer Deepa Ganesh who also conducts Bharatanatyam classes at the Manchester High School for Girls.
