| Geetha Govind in dance | |
| Three Chennai based Bharatanatyam dancers got together to present Jayadeva's celebrated work, 'Geetha Govind', recently. Choreographed by senior dance guru Kalanidhi Narayanan, the presentation featured her sishyas Priyadarshini Govind, Indira Kadambi and Sangeetha Iswaran.
While Priyadarshini adorned the role of Radha, Sangeetha was Krishna and Indira played the sakhi or the friend. It was an evening of abhinaya - a visual translation of the eroticism seen in the Sanskrit verses of Jayadeva, elaborating on the love between Radha and Krishna.
The recorded music featured vocalists Hariprasad, Vanathi Raghuraman and Jayanthi Mohan. Music was scored by Kamakshi Kuppuswami and T.K. Padmanabhan.
And Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's auditorium in Mylapore had a packed audience for the show. This production tours the U.S.A from mid April to June, this year. |
