Gayana Samaja celebrates in Kerala

It was a very special occasion. Vylopilly Bhavan at Thiruvananthapuram, built in the traditional style and set in a peaceful environment, was the venue. The Bangalore Gayana Samaja was celebrating its first Centenary Year programme outside Karnataka with the active participation of the other three southern states - of South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, Kerala Cultural Centre and the Kuchipudi dance group from Hyderabad. The event was held in mid-January.

His Excellency R.L. Bhatia, Governor of Kerala, inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the lamp. The Maharaja of Travancore Sree Padmanabha Dasa H.H. Marthanda Varma presided.

H. Kamalanath, President of Gayana Samaja, welcomed the dignitaries and the audience. Kerala based arts promoters Sree Padmanabha Dasa H.H. Marthanda Varma, Soorya Krishnamurthy, artistes Neyyattinkara Vasudevan and K. Omanakutty were felicitated for their conribution to fine arts. A Kuchipudi dance performance featured Yashoda Thakore.
