By Karthik Balakrishnan / Mumbai

This year, the city of Mumbai joins in to celebrate lord Nataraja on the occasion of Mahasivarathri. ‘Natyanjali’ is the time for dancers to pay obeisance to Lord Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. Over the years, places like Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Thiruvavur and Thanjavur have been hosting Natyanjali festivals. This has inspired Subramaniam Samaj, Mumbai to organize this festival for the first time in Mumbai on the occasion of Sivaratri at Thiruchembur Murugan Temple. This provides an opportunity to dancers in Mumbai to participate in the Natyanjali.

The dance festival is scheduled to be held from March 5 to 11, 2005. Organised by Sri Subramania Samaj as a part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Thiru Chembur Murugan temple, this event features several classical dance performances by dancers from all over Mumbai. Some of the featured performances include - Bharatanatyam by students of Guru Padmini Radhakrishnan, Odissi by Anu Narayan and Sangeeta Rajan, Kathakali by Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan and party, Mohiniattam by Geetha Radhakrishna among others.
