'Thaka Dhimi Tha', a game show on Bharatanatyam, telecast on Jaya T.V on Sunday mornings, launches a new series from March
20, 2005.
The show, directed by Chennai based Bharatanatyam dancer Radhika Shurajit, has been on air for four years now. Young dance students participating in the various testing rounds of the contest in this show, are judged for their talent in dancing, creativity and knowledge. Dancers from Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Tumkur and Coimbatore have participated.
The new series will be anchored by Vimala Raman, a model and Bharatanatyam dancer from Australia. The contests have been judged by dancers like Ganga Thampi, Lakshmi Gopalaswami, M.V.N. Moorthy, Srikanth, Gayatri Balagurunathan, Kiran and Sandhya, Chitra Muralidharan among others.
An interesting section in the new series will be the segment, where senior dancer and guru Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy, explains the format and presentation of a Bharatanatyam recital on stage.
She will talk about the nuances of each dance number in a Bharatanatyam margam, right from Pushpanjali, Alarippu, Jatiswaram and Shabdam to Varnam, Padam, Javali and Thillana. The dance numbers have been demonstrated by the senior students of Shree Bharatalaya, while Prof. Sudharani herself has performed a few abhinaya pieces. Group choreography, costumes, make-up, jewellery and orchestra for dance will also be featured.
This segment takes off from the previous series, where guru Chitra Visweswaran explained the basics of Bharatanatyam and the training methods adopted in classroom.
