Bharatanatyam dancer Sreelatha Vinod presented her latest choreographic work 'Srishti - The dawn of Creation' at the Kala Utsavam Festival on November 11, 2005 at Esplanade Theatres on the Bay in Singapore.
The main piece of the evening 'Gangaa Amrutham' was specially choreographed and presented by Sreelatha just for this event with the
music composed by Hariprasad of Kalakshetra and lyrics by Prof Raghuraman. Says Sreelatha, "Getting Shrishti together for the Kala Utvasam in Singapore was a wonderful experience. The dance choreography and the sequence of the pieces retained the 'Rasa' of the concept of 'Shrishti' and my approach was to keep it simple and descriptive in nature. The second half of the evening's performance was totally new and was premired for the festival for the very first time." She adds, " 'Gangaa Amrutham' weaved the story of river Ganga through three personas of her being: as a 'Kanya' or maiden, she dances in the heavens as a carefree spirit, as a 'Stree' or woman she exhibits a ferocious power that encompasses the light of creation and the fire of destruction all contained within her enormous potential. This primordial energy is tamed by the lord Shiva and Ganga turns to him as her protector; finally as a 'Matha' or mother, she matures into the great protector, and the corrector of the misdeeds of her offspring in the universe. Her forgiving embrace, absolves them of sins, and releases their souls from the cycle of death and re-birth".

Sreelatha was accompanied by Chennai based Sashidharan Natarajan on the vocal, Haripadman on nattuvangam, Ramesh Babu on
mridangam, M.S Kannan on violin and Trichy L. Saravanan on the flute.
