Youth music festivals / Bangalore

Today there is no dearth of opportunities for the young aspirants in the field of Carnatic music, be it competitions or concerts. Or concert-competitions, which combine the competitive spirit with the necessary exposure to the concert format. Two such festivals were recently oraganised in Bangalore.

Malleswaram Sangeetha Sabha in association with Ananya, conducted the Hanuma Jayanthi Young Artists Music festival from 10 to 16 December, 2006. This featured C K Pavandeep, Sahana Ramachandra, Suchethan, Chaitra Prasanna (vocal), S V Sahana (Veena), H M Sindhu, Jyothsna Manjunath, Myssore G Rajesh, Deepa K Murthy, B K Raghu (violin), S Prashanth, S N Narayana Murthy, Nanjundamurthy, Harsha Samaga, Bhargav, S V Balakrishna (mridangam), R Ramesh, Vasavi Tharanath (Ghatam), Bhagya Lakshmi Krishna, D V Prasannakumar, Lakshminarayan(morching) and R Shrihari (Khanjira).

The prizes were bagged by Sahana Ramachandra(vocal), S V Sahana (Veena), H N Sindhu (violin) and D V Prasanna Kumar (Morching).

Nadajyothi Sri Tyagaraja Bhajana Sabha, Bangalore, conducted its annual concert competitions - Yuvotsava 2006, for youngsters from 7 to 10, January 2006, in collaboration with Ananya.

The artists featured were Pattabhirama Pandit, H M Sindhu and H M Smitha (violin), V Ranjani Hebbar (vocal), Smitha Srikiran(flute), Mattoor Srinidhi, K R Satyaprakash, Mysore G Rajesh (violin), S Prashanth, R Raghunath, Harsha Samaga, Amruth Nagasundar (Mridangam), G S Sriram, Vasavi Tharanath (Ghatam) and Pramath Kiran (morching).

The series was judged by senior vocalist from Bangalore, Vidwan M T Selvanarayana. V Ranjani Hebbar (vocal), Smitha Srikiran (instrumental – main) K R Satyaprakash (violin – accompaniment), Harsha Samaga ( Mridangam) and Pramath Kiran (morsing) walked away with the prizes.

It was a pleasant sight to see full houses for most of these performances. Another appreciable factor was that quite a few artistes featured in the festival were from outside Bangalore.
