South Indian Cultural Association sponsored a pleasing vocal duet by Vishnubhotla Sisters, at Ravindra Bharati on 16 May 2006. Saraswati and Krishnaveni both Senior Artists of Akashvani, Vijayawada, presented a varied fare.
Starting with Chalamela Chesevayya Varnam (Natakuranji), they went on with Dixithar's Vaathapi Ganapathim (Hamsadhwani), Thyagaraja's Maa Paala Velasina (Asaveri), and Marugelara (Jayantashri). The main pieces were Mysore Vasudevachar's Ninne Nammithinayya (Simhendra Madhyamam), Thyagaraja's O Rangasaayi (Kambhoji) followed byUthukkad Venkata Subbaiyer's Brindavani Nilaye (Riti Gowla) and a few other miscellaneous items.
Dwaram Sathyanarayana Rao (grandson of violin maestro Padmashri late DwaramVenkata Swami Naidu), supported the singers very well. B. V. S. Prasad (Mridangam) and P.V.Ramanamurthy (Ghatam) accompanied the artists.
However, the percussion instruments could not be heard beyond the front row, because of bad acoustics. This is one area, rasikas hope, will get attention in the near future.
