Chitra Visweswaran treats London rasikas
 

Chennai based senior dance guru Chitra Visweswaran presented a well-attended Bharatanatyam performance at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank, London, at the invitation of Allah Rakha Foundation to commemorate the birth anniversary of tabla legend Ustad Allah Rakha on 26 April 2006.

The performance featured a Ganga Kavuthuvam, the GNB varnam in Ranjani, hitherto untouched in the dance repertoire and Jagadodharana.

Visweswaran on vocals, Umaa on nattuvangam and vocal support, Balachander on mridangam and Bangalore Balu Raguraman on violin added lustre to the outstanding performance.

Pt. Visweswaran also presented a short santoor recital on the occasion. Meanwhile, Pt. Viswewaran also presented a sarod recital, which was hosted by the Alla Rakha Foundation and The Nehru Centre on 19 April. Visweswaran was accompanied by Yusuf Mehmood on the tabla and Uma Namboodripad on the tanpura.
