Perur Natyanjali Dance Fest from Sept.14

The annual dance festival in Perur, situated on the fringe of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, will be held for four days starting September 14.

Held inside the Perur temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, this fest is promoted by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and presents dancers and dance troupes from this region as well as from centres like Chennai.

This year, many local talents have been featured here and slots have been provided to dancers of the Kuchipudi and Kathak dance forms.

On all days, the performances begin at 6pm and go on till 9pm. (Perur is about a 15mins. car drive from Coimbatore town)

Here is the schedule -

Sep.14 - Inauguration, followed by Bharatanatyam by students of "ABYASA" - guru Lavanya Sankar from Coimbatore, followed by a Bharatanatyam dance feature by sishyas of guru Amutha Dandapani of Coimbatore titled "Adiyaruku Auriliya Amuthan".

This will be followed by another thematic dance titled 'Ramayanam' by students of 'Udimat Pandanallur Natya Palli' of guru B. Srininvasan of Chennai.

On Sept.17 (Friday), students of Salangai Acadmy of Fine Arts based in Tiruchi led by guru Vijaya Mukundan will open the day's performances, followed by a Kuchipudi dance recital by students of the famed Chennai-based Kuchipudi Arts Acadmy of guru Vempatti Chinna Satyam.

At 8pm, is a Kathak recital by sishyas of Dr. Vaibhavi Joshipura of Bangalore.

On Sept 16 (Sat.), the event opens with a Bharatanatyam recital by students of Lalitha Kalakshetra of Coimbatore followed by another Bharatanatyam recital by Chennai-based artistes.

Thereafter, dancer Nalini Prakash and her students of 'Silambam' based in Coonoor, will present a dance feature titled 'Ardhanareeswarar'.

On Sept.17 (Sunday), students of guru Anitha Guha of Chennai will present a dance-drama titled ' Azhagu Arul Aadal' which will begin at 6.20pm and go on till 8pm.

This will be followed by Bharatanatyam and Odissi recitals by students at the Coimbatore-based Temple of Fine Arts.
