Ekaantha Seetha - a tribute to the strengths of women
 

Cleveland Cultural Alliance, an organisation established by Uma Ganesan has come out with another production this year - Ekaantha Seetha . . . a lonely furrow.

This dance drama is a celebration of women of extraordinary courage, character and grace. The dancer couple Shanta and V. P. Dhananjayan have choreographed the dance drama. T. V Gopalakrishnan who wears many hats such as percussionist, vocalist and composer of dance oriented musical pieces is the music director, while Ranjitha Ashok, writer-journalist is responsible for concep development. Lakshmi Srinath, an artist and a designer is taking care of the costumes and the sets are by lakshmi Krishnamurthy.

Ekaantha Seetha links stories from mythology to the present day realities. Seetha, Sanskrit for furrow, who was exiled, despite her surmounting a voluntary test by fire, Rani Lakshmi Bai who died a heroic death and gave birth to the freedom movement and Aparajitha, the modern day woman who leads her community towards a less constrained future are all parts of the dance drama. This three-hour presentation has 16 dancers playing various characters.

This dance drama will tour 28 cities in the U. S. The World Premiere of Ekaantha Seetha will be held on the 12th of September, 2006, at the Music Academy, Chennai at 7pm.
