G. Choodamani Narasimhan, wife of vidwan 'chitravina' Narasimhan passed away last week.
She is the mother of prominent musicians Carnatic musicians Ravikiran, Shashikiran and Kiranavali. She played a key role in their emerging as child prodigies.
Born in Wynad (Kerala) from early childhood, she showed great flair in diverse areas such as academics, arts and sports.
Soon after her marriage to 'chitravina' Narasimhan, in 1966, she joined the State Bank of Mysore, where she worked for about 30 years.
Even as her husband was training the children, she took on the mantle of being the sole breadwinner of the family for a few years. With her knowledge of different languages like Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and English, she not only helped children with their music but also took an active part in their education.
She was deeply involved in documenting and translating the works of great masters like Oothukadu Venkatakavi and Muthuswamy Dikshitar.
