'Sahasam' - a tale of Indian culture

Bharatanatyam dancer Priyadarshini Govind enjoys new experiences. She tries to add new dimensions to the traditional movements in classical Bharatanatyam. This time it is for a show to be staged at The Maison de la Danse in Lyon, France. The premiere of the show was held at Alliance Francaise auditorium in Chennai, recently.

When the show is designed for the young children of France, games and tales have to be part of it.
Priyadarshini and Elizabeth Petit, another Bharatanatyam and contemporary dancer have conceptualised 'Sahasam' a new production which aims at educating the children of France about Indian culture, through entertainment.

The production has a story skilfully weaved into it. A story about two teen aged princesses, whose father was defeated in a war and the princesses were left alone.
The whole story revolves around a traditional swing which alone is left with them. The reminiscences of their childhood brings in the games and playgrounds alive on the stage.

The traditional games, description of the Hindu Gods and the panchatantra tale exhibits the duo's expertise in choreography.

With the music composed by vocalist Rajkumar Bharati, traditional south Indian ragas float melodiously around the hall.

An innovative way of educating the young children about tradition and culture, the production will be presented at The Maison de la Danse in Lyon, France during the last week of May.
