One of the biggest patrons of the classical arts in Chennai, P. Obul Reddy passed away on June 30, 2010.

Reddy was not active for some time but he was acknowledged as patron at many events across the city.

He made huge endowments for the popularisation of the works of saint Thyagaraja and other composers. These events/concerts were held at various leading sabhas in the city.

He was also instrumental in establishing the 'Nritya Choodamani' title and award that is given annually to the 'best dancer' under the auspices of the Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai.

He served as a senior member on the team at The Music Academy.
